Progress

It's been almost 6 months since I started my pursuit at becoming a professional photographer. Thinking back, the whole idea happened pretty quick. I remember mentioning the idea to James one day, saying I really wouldn't mind pursuing this career at some point. I've always loved photography, and why I never thought to go into that as my career still baffles me. Maybe I didn't think I was talented enough? Or too intimidated by what people might think of my work? Or scared of the comments that might come my way? I don't know. But I did know that I wanted to give it a try. I was on "maternity leave" (not like I got any money from the government since I was self employed, but I still gave myself some time off!) and had time to test the waters.

So we did. THIS was my first blog post.  A couple days after talking about doing this photography thing my husband surprised me and bought me my camera, the Canon Rebel Xsi. I didn't waste any time and started taking pictures like crazy, trying to familiarize myself with my camera. I wanted to do a photo session right away for I roped my sister into modeling for me! THIS was my first photo shoot. And THIS was also part of it. Looking back at my pictures I can already see how much I've improved in the last few months, at least I think so! =)

Where does that leave me now? Well, I've got at least some skills down pretty good but still have lots of room for growth and improvement. I've done lots of different kinds of photo shoots and am still learning how to "pose" people. That is proving to be one of the hardest parts about this whole thing!

On the business side of things I'm working on lots of great stuff at the moment! I'm in the process of branding my business which means that I've already met with a Graphic Designer who is working for/with me to set the tone for my business. Included in that is designing my logo and picking colours for that and for the rest of my business needs, like my website, business cards, letterhead, etc. I've bought my domain name for my website already and I've downloaded the Showit software to build my website, so that's a good start! Once we get the logo figured out then I can work on designing my business cards and all my other paper needs, and also finish my website.

I'm hoping to launch my website in September so I'll be using the summer to build up enough quality pictures to add to it. I'm so excited about where my business is going, but I'm also nervous, too. I just hope I can get all the little things figured out like licenses, release forms, insurance, etc. Those are the things that make my head spin.

Thank you to everyone who has been supportive of my endeavors! I've been so encouraged and look forward to taking more great pictures for all of you!
