Top 25 of 2010

My first year as a photographer is coming to an end. What started as more of an experiment to see if I possessed any photographic skills whatsoever, turned into a love and passion for taking pictures. The amount of growth that I've noticed in my own work, and the love for taking pictures for other people, has grown so much in the last year. When I think back to this last year I have to sit in disbelief. Some days this feels like a dream. I'm so thankful that it is my reality!

I am so excited for what God has in store for me with my business and for my family and life in general. In February I get to go to Las Vegas with a friend for the WPPI convention; in March I'm flying to Australia to visit a dear friend of mine and to shoot what I know will be one of the most gorgeous weddings ever! I have 4 weddings booked for 2011 and look forward to booking more! What an exciting year coming up!

My original plan for this post was to pots my Top 10 pictures of 2010, but that was near impossible. My style and skill have changed and improved so much in the last year. And there were so many pictures that I loved for different reasons. I've narrowed it down to my favourite 25 pictures from this last year. These pictures aren't necessarily my "best" pictures, but they stand out to me for different reasons. I'll share my thoughts for each image and the very last one is probably my most favourite picture that I took this last year.

1. This was my very first session! She graciously offered to be my bridal model and I had a great time and learned so much from this first session! (Original Post)

2. I love this picture. I love Fort Langley. That might be why I love it so much! Sarah was a great model for this re-live the dress session! (Original Post Part 1 and Part 2)

3. My first couple's session with my sister and her husband! As you can see, I don't edit this way anymore, but I was still experimenting with different styles at this point! (Original Post)

4. Ahhh, my sister-in-law's fashion shoot. Such a talented girl, this one! This is one of my favourites, hands down! This is when I officially fell in love with the lighting at sunset!! (Original Post)

5. I've said it many times before, but I love photographing this family! This picture is for sure one of my top favourites. I love the love for their new baby girl! (Original Post)

6. This family got my business going, I'd say! Most of my clients after this session were friends of theirs! I just love little Sol's face here and the lighting and everything! (Original Post)

7. I don't even really know what it is about this picture that captures me. Maybe it's the curiosity of a toddler, holding a bracelet. Maybe it's the composition of the image. I don't know, but I love it! (Original Post)

8. These are good friends of ours and I LOVE this picture! It captures their personalities to a T! (Original Post)

9. Denise is one of my closest friends and modeled for me for a Trash the Dress shoot this summer. I love this picture, sun flare spot and all! (Original Post Part 1 and Part 2)

10. Pregnant bellies are one of my favourite things in the world. I love everything that they represent. The miracle of life, the nurturing, the love, the anticipation and the preparation. Such a beautiful time in a woman's life! Gotta love her outfit, the high grass and the lighting in this picture, too! (Original Post)

11. My mom. I loved that I could take some pictures of her in her wedding dress! Pictures that she would have NEVER had 32 years ago when she got married! (Original Post)

12. Crystal and Jacob's wedding. My first wedding that I was able to take pictures of! There were so many pictures from their wedding day that I loved but this one just stands out for me. I love the softness of the veil over her face, and the expression on her face. Gorgeous. (Original Post)

13. Robyn and Andrew. Holy cow. Most photogenic couple I've ever met! This was one of my most favourite sessions ever! Robyn contacted me just a few months before this session and we have become dear friends! (Original Post)

14. I love Autumn and I love this little girl! So cute and full of wonder and curiosity! I love this picture with the leaves flying and her eyes clothes as the leaves fall over her! (Original Post)

15. Another good friend of mine! This picture is just so romantic to me! (Original Post)

16. I took lots of pictures of Tressa this year, but this is my favourite. I love the colours and the lines in the background and just the setting in general. And Tressa made such a gorgeous, glowing, stylish mother-to-be! (Original Post)

17. Love the colours of this picture! I'm a huge fan of textured background and this brick wall did the trick! Plus, the leaves in the corners make it stand out so much more. At least I think so! (Original Post)

18. A fellow Capernwray alumni! This was the session that made me fall in love with the 35mm lens! I'm so excited for their wedding next September! A gorgeous couple, inside and out! (Original Post)

19. I just really love this one! =) (Original Post)

20. I can't stop looking at this one! I love love love the lighting in it! (Original Post)

21. Here's that cutie patutie again! Oh man, she's just getting cuter and cuter as she gets older! I love the back light in this picture, and Kherington is just too photogenic! (Original Post)

22. This picture melts my heart. Maybe it's because I'm a mom and I can empathize with Lisa and her sympathy for her sick son. Or maybe it's just because you can so strongly sense the love that Lisa has for her son, or any mother for her child. I love it. (Original Post)

23. This is a pretty picture and I like it! =) (Original Post)

24. I have so many favourites from this wedding but don't have them all finished yet! This was an amazing wedding and a fabulous experience. I love the couple's interaction with each other here, and just the colours from the snow and everything put together!

25. And my most favourite picture of the year goes to Robyn from her bridal session. I would blow this one up and put it in MY house if that wasn't creepy! haha. I'll save that for another day when I have my own studio or something! =) (Original Post)

Thanks to making this year a success for me! For those of you that are past clients of mine, I love working with you and look forward to working with the rest of you one day!

Happy Thursday!
